Sports & Swimming Programme
How do we raise confident, disciplined, and resilient girls who embrace challenges, thrive in teamwork, and develop a lifelong love for physical activity?
At Sikh Heritage Girls School, sport is more than just a subject—it is a foundation for self-belief, perseverance, and well-being. Our dedicated sports and swimming programme, delivered by expert coaches from Inspire Sports Academy, ensures that every girl, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to develop essential skills, stay active, and unlock her full potential.
Our Partnership with Inspire Sports Academy
We are proud to collaborate with Inspire Sports Academy, whose highly skilled coaches deliver a comprehensive and engaging sports programme tailored to the needs of our pupils. From developing fundamental movement skills to competing in school-wide tournaments, our girls experience high-quality, structured lessons that build their confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
The Benefits of Sport:
Research consistently shows that physical activity enhances cognitive function, emotional well-being, and academic success (Donnelly et al., 2016). Our commitment to active learning, regular exercise, and skill development ensures that every girl reaps these benefits in a supportive, inclusive environment.
A Diverse & Inclusive Sports Curriculum
Our sports programme is designed to ignite passion and confidence, offering a variety of sports that cater to all interests and abilities:
Team Sports – including football, netball, basketball, and cricket develop teamwork, leadership, and communication.
Individual Sports – Athletics, gymnastics, tennis, and badminton are some of the sports we explore, which encourage self-discipline and goal-setting.
Competitive & Enrichment Opportunities – Girls participate in tournaments, inter-school competitions, and activity days to build resilience and sportsmanship.
We believe that sport is for everyone—whether a girl is developing her first set of skills or excelling in competitive sport, we support her journey with expert coaching, encouragement, and challenge.
Swimming: A Lifesaving Skill for Every Girl
Swimming is an essential life skill, and at Sikh Heritage Girls School, we ensure every pupil gains water confidence, stroke proficiency, and safety awareness. Our swimming lessons take place at Teikyo Japanese School, where Inspire Sports Academy’s specialist swimming coaches provide structured, engaging sessions that cater to all levels.
Water Confidence – Early exposure to water builds familiarity and reduces fear.
Stroke Development – Pupils learn key strokes with correct technique and efficiency.
Water Safety & Survival Skills – Essential training in floating, treading water, and self-rescue.
Opportunities to Work on individual grades and badges – Girls showcase their progress and celebrate achievements.
Research from Swim England (2017) highlights that children who develop early water confidence are more likely to engage in lifelong physical activity. By ensuring every girl is a competent and confident swimmer, we equip them with a skill that could one day save their life.
Equity in Sport: Supporting Every Girl
At Sikh Heritage Girls School, every girl deserves access to high-quality sports education, regardless of ability. We ensure equity through:
Tailored Support – Additional coaching for girls who need extra guidance.
Opportunities for Challenge – High-level training for those excelling in a particular sport.
Culturally Inclusive PE & Swimming Lessons – Ensuring all pupils feel comfortable, respected, and empowered.
Character Development Through Sport
Sport is more than just physical activity—it shapes character. Through structured coaching, competition, and teamwork, our girls develop:
Resilience – Learning to embrace challenges and overcome obstacles.
Discipline – Understanding commitment, responsibility, and self-motivation.
Perseverance – Developing the courage to keep trying, even when things are tough.
Our sports and swimming curriculum also supports SMSC development, fostering respect, teamwork, and the values of fair play and integrity. Girls celebrate diversity, build friendships, and develop the confidence to lead.
The Lasting Impact
Through our sports and swimming programme, every girl leaves Sikh Heritage Girls School with:
A strong foundation in physical literacy, ensuring lifelong health and well-being.
Confidence to participate in a variety of physical activities in school and beyond.
A resilient, goal-oriented mindset that prepares her for life’s challenges.
A deep understanding of teamwork, self-discipline, and perseverance.
By empowering our girls through movement, we are shaping not just athletes, but strong, confident individuals who carry these values into every area of life.
