Jeevan Jaach

In a world that competes for our time and attention, how do we nurture stillness and a mind-strong way of life?

At Sikh Heritage Girls School, our Jeevan Jach curriculum is a cornerstone of our approach to learning and personal growth. With a discrete lesson each week, the teachings of Jeevan Jach are seamlessly woven into every aspect of school life, from classroom interactions to reflective moments throughout the day. Rooted in the timeless wisdom of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji—the highest authority and source of our knowledge—Jeevan Jach inspires our pupils to cultivate mental clarity, inner calm, and a purposeful way of living.

Simran is the essence of our school life. Through the practice of simran—focusing on eliminating unnecessary thoughts and embracing stillness—our pupils learn to centre themselves. This practice not only enhances their capacity for learning but also nurtures a deep sense of inner peace and resilience, allowing them to approach challenges with clarity and compassion.

In addition to promoting mental clarity and stillness, our Jeevan Jach curriculum is deeply connected to the teachings of moral education. Our pupils learn the importance of knowing right from wrong, acting with integrity, and holding themselves to the highest standards of ethical behaviour. These lessons empower them to lead by example and contribute positively to their communities. Moreover, we bring Sikh history into our lessons, using it to illustrate the values of courage, service, and righteousness, and showing how these principles shaped our rich heritage.

We are also proud to be supported by the MIND Wellbeing Programme for Schools, which provides us with strategies and resources to support our pupils’ mental health and wellbeing. This programme enhances our Jeevan Jach curriculum, reinforcing the importance of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and resilience in building strong, compassionate individuals.

Our Vision for Jeevan Jach and Moral Education:

  • Cultivating Inner Stillness: We guide our pupils to discover moments of tranquility amid the demands of daily life, helping them develop a mindful approach to learning and living.

  • Building Mental Clarity: Through regular practice of simran, our pupils learn to clear their minds and focus, enabling them to absorb knowledge more deeply and respond thoughtfully to life’s challenges.

  • Fostering Integrity and Morality: The lessons of moral education help our pupils understand the significance of making ethical choices, acting with honesty, and showing integrity in all aspects of their lives.

  • Embodying Sikh History and Teachings: Our curriculum is grounded not only in the wisdom of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji but also in Sikh history, which teaches our pupils about the bravery, selflessness, and righteousness of the Sikh Gurus and how these lessons apply to their daily lives.

  • Embodying the Teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: We encourage our pupils to live by the principles of truth, love, and selflessness, which are deeply rooted in both Sikh teachings and the actions of our Gurus throughout history.

How We Teach Jeevan Jach and Moral Education:

  • Weekly Dedicated Lessons: Each week, a dedicated lesson introduces key concepts of Jeevan Jach, guiding pupils through practices that nurture stillness, mental strength, moral understanding, and the teachings of Sikh history.

  • Integrated Reflections: The values and teachings from Jeevan Jach, moral education, and Sikh history are reflected in everyday school life, reinforcing mental clarity, ethical decision-making, and the importance of integrity in every lesson and interaction.

  • Experiential Learning: Through guided simran sessions, reflective exercises, group discussions, and role-playing scenarios, our pupils experience firsthand how cultivating a clear, focused mind and ethical decision-making can transform their approach to learning and relationships.

  • Moral Education through Role Models: Our pupils are encouraged to identify and learn from role models, both from our Sikh heritage and from the wider world, understanding the impact of living with integrity and the power of making morally sound decisions.

  • Sikh History as a Guide: Lessons incorporate the inspiring stories and teachings from Sikh history, showing how the Gurus exemplified values of bravery, selflessness, and commitment to justice. Pupils reflect on how these teachings apply to their own lives and decision-making.

  • Community Engagement: We encourage pupils to extend their learning beyond the classroom by engaging in activities that reflect the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sikh history, and moral education, nurturing empathy, resilience, and a commitment to serving their community.

The Impact of Our Jeevan Jach Curriculum:

By the time our pupils leave Sikh Heritage Girls School, they will have developed:

  • A deep sense of inner peace and the ability to remain centered even amidst life’s challenges.

  • Mental clarity that enhances their ability to learn, think critically, and engage with the world in a balanced, thoughtful manner.

  • A strong moral compass, with the ability to understand right from wrong, act with integrity, and make ethical decisions.

  • A rich understanding of Sikh history and its relevance to contemporary life, empowering them to live out the values of bravery, selflessness, and justice.

  • A commitment to living the values of truth, love, and service, as taught by Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

  • The skills to be role models in their communities, inspiring others with their resilience, compassion, and moral integrity.

At Sikh Heritage Girls School, our Jeevan Jach curriculum is more than a subject—it is a way of life, guiding our pupils to live mindfully, with purpose, integrity, and a deep connection to their Sikh heritage every day.
